BEYOND THE MESAS provides a forum for people to obtain information on Hopi issues of the past, present, and future. Special attention is given to Hopi history, sovereignty, self-determination, education, scholarship, photography, films, and current happenings on the Hopi Reservation.

Matthew Sakiestewa Gilbert is enrolled with the Hopi Tribe from the village of Upper Moencopi in northeastern Arizona. He is an assistant professor of American Indian Studies & History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
