We Are All Clowns

In this video, I reflect on a conversation I had with the late Hopi scholar Emory Sekaquaptewa and on his article “One More Smile for a Hopi Clown.” The conversation took place nearly twenty years ago, while I was interviewing for a faculty position in the Department of American Indian Studies at the University of Arizona. At the time, I was a young scholar and thought Emory would always be there to mentor and guide me through the academy. He passed away less than a year later. I made this video in his memory.
